Alessandro Schiattarella to present his solo work Altrove

Alessandro Schiattarella will be on tour with his choreographic solo work Altrove. The show Altrove is a solo project in which Alessandro investigates the subject of being a professional dancer and at the same time a man suffering from a rare type of myopathy. In 2017 he was invited to the prestigious European network AEROWAVES. The title Altrove (“elsewhere” in Italian) is a place of confrontation, dialogue, and play, where otherness becomes inspiration. In this mysterious “elsewhere” objects and limbs do not function the way they were “designed” to function. Starting from his autobiographical experience of disability, the dancer looks for ways to hide otherness, to confront it, and finally, to accept it in oneself.

About the artist:
Alessandro was born in January ’82 in Napoli, Italy. Graduated in 2000 at the   Rudra Béjart School, during the next 15 years he worked with internationally renowned free-lance and repertoire dance companies, such as (among others): Béjart Ballet Lausanne, Ballet Du Grand Theatre de Geneve, Konzert Theater Bern, EastWest Theater Company Sarajevo, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Da Motus Fribourg, Ballett Basel.

Since 2015, he has been supported by the Cultural Commission of Basel and the ROXY Birslfelden, which allowed him to create Tell Me Where It Is (2015), his first full evening solo-piece treating the theme of the less-visible disabilities, under an autobiographical perspective. And the group work STRANO (2017), which question and challenge the broad topic of “normality”. His previous short dance solo ALTROVE (2014) was recently selected and performed on the outstanding international platform Aerowaves (2017).

At present, Alessandro is actively engaged through choreography; workshops; residencies; lectures & debates; and artistic collaborations (Beweggrund Bern and the Unmute Dance Company Cape Town 2016/2018)… on the theme of inclusion of differently abled people in the “mainstream” (dance) world.
