A Swiss artist and fashion designer, Mariel Manuel works mainly by materializing ideas in 3D, on the body or in space, sometimes at the crossroads of sculpture and design. “Ten dresses under my bed” is an ongoing research project by Manuel that questions the values and use of textile, craftsmanship and the disposal of fabrics that produce waste. Through an extensive research and appropriation process, Manuel collects textiles from around the world and numerous found plastics and objects, combining them into what appear to resemble finely hand-worked cocktail dresses. Both geometric and organic, the dresses are presented as wall textiles that tell their own story in their own time.
