Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury

Switzerland | Visual Arts

October - December 2021 — Visual Arts

Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury’s interdisciplinary practice plays with different languages – ranging from installation, assemblage, movement, video, collage, sculpture, found footage, experimental film – to conjure multifaceted artistic universes. As an inter-media artist, he creates space with still and moving content, archival and contemporary imagery. The work process is intuitive, adaptive, fluid and ongoing and influences come from everyday life. He plays in-between the structural and ephemerality, investigates visible and invisible energy fields or different forms of forces.

Mizanur was recently awarded the Alserkal summer residency 2021 (Dubai). He received Samdani Art Award 2018 with a residency in Delfina Foundation, London, which is among the most competitive art awards for emerging Bangladeshi artists. Most recently he participated with a project titled ‘Love Letter to the Last Sun’ at Seismic movement, Spatial movement, Dhaka Art Summit 2020, commissioned by Samdani Art Foundation, and curated by Diana Campbell Betancourt.

‘The Place Where the Sun Has Another Name’ is another project he has been developing since January 2019, and which was exhibited in Chobi Mela X (International Photography Festival) in February 2019 under their fellowship programme for visual artists. This project, curated by Rahaab Allana and commissioned by Alkazi Foundation, travelled to Serendipity Art Festival 2019 in Goa. Mizanur’s work has been shown in various exhibitions such as India Art Fair 2019, A Finger on the Pulse, Delhi, India (2018), Self-Identity, National Museum of Bangladesh (2016), ‘Mourn’ a process based art show, Dhaka Art Centre (2013), Only God Can Judge Me (OGCJM collective, 2012) Dhaka, ‘How Are You?’ at Community Space Litmus gallery, South Korea (2012).

Based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Mizanur has completed his bachelor and master’s degrees from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
