Residencies stimulate creative and mutual exchange between artists.
Pro Helvetia offers three months’ studio residencies and research residencies where artists are encouraged to develop their practice in a climate of cultural diversity.
Atul Kumar, founder of The Company Theatre in Mumbai, is also an acclaimed actor and director with more than 30 years of performance experience. His basic performance training was in the traditional Indian dance and martial art forms of Kathakali and Kalerippayettu in Kerala, which he has also complemented with his various travels abroad.
During his research residency in Switzerland, Atul aims to be acquainted with contemporary art practices in field of performing arts in Switzerland. He will be attending the Kaserne Basel Arts Festival and also meeting with artistic directors at arts residencies in Chateau Mercier and Villa Straeuli to enable exchange with like-minded residency spaces.
The research residency aims to enable new cultural awareness, meetings and collaborations between Indian and Swiss artists in the field of performing arts. It would be an opportunity for artists of both countries to innovate inew, daring & cutting-edge projects together.
