Bhavna Kakar on research trip to Switzerland

Exhibit at Latitude 28 titled “If a Tree Falls (Somewhere in the Northeast)” by Chandan Bez Baruah

Bhavna Kakar

Bhavna Kakar completed her BFA in Painting from Government College of Art, Chandigarh and an MVA in Art History from MS University, Baroda. Having received a JRF-UGC research fellowship, her ongoing thesis focuses on pre-modern art and Brahmanical sculpture from the Vidarbha region. With two decades of experience in arts management, editing and curating, Kakar founded the contemporary art space LATITUDE 28 in New Delhi in 2010. In the same year she established TAKE on Art, a bi-annual magazine on South Asian art practices.

Together with Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, TAKE on Art initiated the Art Writers’ Award (AWA) in 2018 to promote critical writing in the field of arts. Through her research trip, Kakar aims to exchange ideas on critical writing on art with artists, writers and art institutions of Switzerland and develop new programs on art writing such as AWA.
