Ein bisschen mehr Rot : Birender Yadav in residence at Rote Fabrik

Lakeer Ka Fhakeer by Birender Yadav

Birender Yadav

Birender Kumar Yadav who was among the artists awarded a studio residency in 2018 will be artist-in-residence at Rote Fabrik in Zurich from 03 July to 28 September, 2019.

Birender was born in Ballia district, in a predominantly rural province of Uttar Pradesh, India. He comes from a family of coal miners, with his father working as a blacksmith at the coal-mines our province. He was the first to step out from his family and pursue formal higher education. Birender graduated in Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi in 2013. After this he qualified for a Masters in Fine Arts specializing in Painting from the College of Arts, New Delhi in 2015. Birender’s body of works are a reflection of his personal experiences and memories of growing up in a world of coal miners, labourers, and different kinds of workers. They triggered in him questions of identity, representation, politics of class difference, forms of work and making, and issues of oppression and domination of the working classes.
