Debashish Borah at Verzasca Foto Residency
Indian visual artist and photographer Debashish Borah is currently working on a photo-project about nature-culture related societies understanding indigenous knowledge of mythology, rituals and magic. During his residency at Verzasca, Debashish will use the rural forest and mountain setting towards creating post-truth images about his search for ‘Sweat of the Mountains’ also called ‘Shilajit.’
Debasish Borah (b.1987) is a visual artist and photographer from Assam, currently based in Rennes, France. His practice is an attempt towards understanding the negotiations of indigenous societies with concepts of decolonisation, citizenship, and propaganda. He is interested in mundane micro-histories, found-objects and vernacular photography. Co-founder of Leh based art space and small batch publishers called Farside Collective, Debashish has also co-founded Art Book Depot, India’s first independently organised art book festival. Debashish is also enthusiastic about cinema, geography and visiting museums.
