About the performance
What happens when an Artificial Intelligence creates a choreography live in front of an audience? The instructions follow one another, strange or zany. With humour and quirkiness, “Human in the Loop (wip)” by Cie Nicole Seiler questions the power relationships between the performers and a digital choreographer; our freedom within an oppressive, devious and often absurd structure governed by algorithms.
Nicole Seiler created her company in 2002. Her research into video and choreography has led to the creation of innovative works, dance and multimedia, videos, choreographic installations, performances and site-specific works that aim to keep the audience active in their interpretation of the work. Since 2010 her research focuses mainly on the relationship between image and sound and led her to explore the description of movement, from both a historical and personal point of view, but also more generally to question how image and sound connect in our memories. Since 2004, the company tours internationally .
About the workshop
The workshop will be led by Nicole Seiler (CH) accompanied by Diya Naidu (IN), Parth Bharadwaj (IN) and Tammara Leites (CH).
After a warm-up, we will explore different concepts and practices based on Nicole Seiler‘s work as a choreographer. These include working on group improvisations, on the relationship between movement and sound and on exploring the potential of movement descriptions, of memory and perception. We will also put a focus on the ongoing creation Human in the Loop in which an artificial intelligence gives instructions to the dancers. Requests during the workshops are also welcome.
