Johanna Schaible is an artist based in Switzerland. Her artistic practice moves at the intersection of illustration and art and results in books, exhibitions and participatory projects. She is part of the Bolo Klub, a collective supporting an emerging generation of picture book makers in Switzerland. Her picture book debut “Once upon a time there was and will be so much more” was published in 2021 as a co-edition in ten languages. The book won several awards, including the Swiss Childrens Book Prize 2022.

Johanna will be part of the Bookaroo Children’s Literature Festival 2023 in New Delhi from 24 – 25 November and in Baroda from 2-3 December where she will be interacting with children of all ages. At the festival she will present her book “Once upon a time there was and will be so much more,” hold a workshop where children can make a ‘mini-book’ and also invite children to put their crayons and pens to the ‘Doodle Wall’ at Bookaroo. See event schedule here.

During her residency in India, Johanna would like to get in touch with the picture book and art scene and to be involved in an exchange among creatives. “Topics that show our interconnectedness in and with the world drive me in my artistic practice,” says Johanna, adding, “With my work I want to strengthen the feeling for this diverse ‘we’ that we are, although it is incredibly multifarious and unfortunately very divided.”
