“Let Me Tell You a Story” in Bhutan

Francesca Sanna will participate in an online storytelling and illustration workshop for school-children in Bhutan, held at VAST. Together with ThinkArts, Francesca will offer playful and artistic activities one themes such as peace, humanity and sustainability, to inspire children to write and illustrate stories.

ThinkArts will first conduct storytelling workshops on September 11, 18 and 25, where 30 children from Bhutanese schools will participate in in-person workshops at VAST.

On 2 October 2021, Francesca Sanna will engage all 90 schoolchildren from the above workshops in an online workshop where children learn to illustrate the stories they have written with ThinkArts. Of these, five stories will also be further illustrated by Francesca.

Francesca will also hold another exchange and workshop for Bhutanese illustrators, titled “Stories Connect People” on 6 October 2021.

These workshops are part of the “Swiss It!” initiative presented by the Swiss network in India and Bhutan.

Francesca is an illustrator and picture book author from Sardinia, currently living and drawing in Switzerland.

She graduated in Architecture from the University of Cagliari, before she decided to move to Germany first and then Switzerland where she studied design and illustration in Basel and Lucerne. She holds a Master in Design with specialisation in Illustration from the University of Applied Arts of Lucerne, and she has briefly studied in New York, attending a summer residency at the School of Visual Arts. After she graduated she spent several months in London as research fellow for The Reluctant Internationalists Group at Birbeck, University of London, working on one of her books, Me and My Fear.

Her books have been translated into more than 15 languages and her work has been recognised by the Society of Illustrators, American Illustration, 3×3 magazine, Communication Art, Kirkus Reviews and Publisher Weekly.
