Małgorzata Stankiewicz is an artist, poet and a re-searcher, an older sister, a daughter, and an aunt of Baltic-Slavic descent. In her lifework practice, Małgo is curiously drawn to ways of knowing that have been forgotten or erased, intentionally or otherwise, by the predominant Western culture of domination and rationalism. Weaving together performance, poetry, installation and sound, Małgo’s work circulates around the notions of ecology, community, storytelling, symbolism, ritual and meaningful chance, and is deeply informed by her interdisciplinary approach to research and commitment to bringing together hitherto separate threads of knowledge. Her upcoming publication ‘Swells’ explores the phenomenon of aquatic hypoxia in the Baltic Sea through image-making and experimental nonfiction, and will be published in late 2023. She is also working on a collection of essays and poetry, ‘many out of one mouth’, due in 2024.

Małgo will be on residency in Leh and Ladakh in India. Upon the invitation of the Embassy of Switzerland in India, and as part of SwitzerlandIndia75 years, Małgo will also participate in the sā Ladakh festival in India in August 2003. At 3600m, the exhibition is one of South Asia’s highest ever contemporary land art group exhibition, focusing on the theme of mountains, environment, culture and community. Małgo will be conducting a workshop with school kids and also creating a site-specific work in Ladakh.
