Mountain Echoes invites Tess Lewis to Bhutan

Mountain Echoes literary festival is an initiative of the India Bhutan Foundation, in association with Siyahi. The eighth edition of the Mountain Echoes literary festival will be held from 25 – 27 August 2017 in Thimphu, Bhutan.
Author and translator Tess Lewis who has also translated Swiss authors for THE SWISS LIST is invited by Pro Helvetia New Delhi to participate. Tess Lewis will conduct a translation workshop on “A Question of Style: in literary translation how much liberty is enough, how much is too much?” The ninety-minute workshop will address challenges and opportunities of literary translation.

Tess Lewis’s translations from French and German include works by Peter Handke, Anselm Kiefer, Maja Haderlap, Philippe Jaccottet, and Christine Angot. She has been awarded grants from PEN and the NEA, the Austrian Cultural Forum NY Translation Prize, the PEN Translation Prize, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. She serves as an advisory editor for The Hudson Review and writes essays on European Literature for a number of journals and newspapers including The Hudson Review, World Literature Today, The American Scholar, and Bookforum. She curated Festival Neue Literature (2014-15), New York City’s premiere annual festival of German language literature in English.
