Surjit Nongmeikapam at Kaserne Basel

Following his visit to Swiss Dance Days 2019 at Lausanne, dancer/choreographer Surjit Nongmeikapam will soon be on a research residency at Kaserne Basel from 17 June to 5 July 2019. Kaserne Basel is the largest centre in north-west Switzerland for the free contemporary theatre, dance and performance scene, and for innovative popular music.
Surjit Nongmeikapam, the founder and artistic director of Nachom Arts Foundation is an Imphal-based choreographer and mover. He was trained in traditional Indian dance and martial art forms before developing an interest in interdisciplinary arts and experimental works. His notable works include “OneVoice”, a solo piece shown at Zürcher Theater Spektakel, Zurich in 2013. Nongmeikapam is also a co-founder of Arts and Imphal, an upcoming international contemporary arts festival in Imphal, Manipur.
During this residency, Surjit aims to create a new contemporary performance that reflects memories of his childhood and the myriad corporeal and philosophical approaches that have influenced his creative practice.
