Sri Lankan dancer and choreographer Venuri Perera, will be part of Seminar in Taipei at the Taipei Arts Festival from 9 to 18 August 2019. The seminar supported by Pro Helvetia offers twelve up-and-coming young stage practitioners a platform from Switzerland and across the world to take part in debates with artists, art critics and specialists.
Seminar in Taipei brings together twelve young artists from eight different countries participate in an intensive period of discoveries: accompanied by a facilitator, they watch and discuss a wide variety of performances, meet professional practitioners from all over the world and take part in debates with artists, art critics and specialists during the Taipei Arts Festival.
Venuri Perera
Venuri Perera is a Colombo based choreographer, performance artist and movement facilitator. Her works inhabit a space between dance, live art and theatre, and have dealt with issues of violent nationalism, patriarchy, borders, colonial inheritance, class and power dynamics of gaze.
Primarily trained in Kandyan dance, Venuri was a member of Chitrasena Dance Company for 13 years. In 2008, she completed her postgraduate certificate in Dance from Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music and Dance, London. Her solo works have been invited to international festivals. Venuri was curator of Colombo Dance Platform 2016 and performing arts curator for London South Bank Centre’s Women of the World Festival Sri Lanka edition 2017.
