Residencies and Research Trips: On the Move Again

Wenceslaus Mendes on research trip to Switzerland

Seasoned” by Wenceslaus Mendes

Wenceslaus Mendes

Wenceslaus Mendes is a filmmaker with over 20 years of industry experience from Delhi, currently residing in his hometown Goa. He works in Advertising, Broadcast Television and Digital-Web, independently producing award-winning content. He is a cinematographer and editor by profession, practicing and working with multimedia and mediums. He also collaborates and works with video and technology in theatre and performance, while constructing conceptual and installation art projects that have travelled globally.

“I would like to utilize my time at a residency in Switzerland working together with the Romani people and interacting together across food,” says Mendes, “The proposed project would document sensorially (smell, taste, touch) as well as include oral and visual histories through processes of preparation and sharing over meals. Across the project I would also like to trace the ingredients and their recipes – used by the community, their root source, their uses (and alternatives), stories associated with them and the rites and rituals surrounding processes of consumption. The shared knowledge making and exchange could perhaps allow for cross border tracings and communications that are sensual, emotive as well as archival – allowing for knowledge pro-positions that are community driven.”
